The ground disintegrates if you don't hit it perfectly on an into the grain full shot but it's very rare to see that. I guess if for some ridiculous reason the grain is growing into you on your approach shot I could see an issue. Regardless I will take well groomed Bermuda fairways over northern grasses every time and in Texas or Arizona where the ground is dry the ball goes! When you look at the PGA stats the average driving distances are between 20-25 yards shorter here than say at the John Deere, that's the roll out difference. Play here from December through May and the ball goes fine although you'll never get the roll out with the driver. Distance loss from the fairway in Florida comes from being at sea level and if you are here in the summer because it's wet. ![]() Most people prefer Bermuda because the ball sits up. ![]() I guess I'm surprised to hear about Bermuda being an issue in the fairway. I've lived in three distinct parts of the country so I think I can reply to this one okay. they can Make them lightning fast if they choose. Yes the maintainance of the hybrid Bermuda is less, but that's because they don't have to water all the time, at our club it allows the club to cut the greens very short without destroying them. An easy way to check grain is to look into the hole, one side will be "sheered" off the other will be clean cut, the clean cut side shows wihich way the grass is laying, if it's laying north to south a putt from the north to the south will be down grain, and a putt from the south to the north will be into the grain, I hope that helps. If the grass is light colored and shiny, you are putting downhill, if it's dark and greener, you are putting uphill, but check for grain, uphill, down grain will roll different than uphill, into the grain, and the same for downhill putts. The greens, well figuring out the grain is very important, because as the ball slows down it will tend to move that direction, and break, if you see lets say 12 inches of break, it will not break that much, it will probably be closer to 7 inches of actual break, and you must keep the speed of the ball up, you have to be ok with a 2-3 footer coming back. The practice and driving range area is good though so if you just want to hit balls it's good for that.I play Bermuda ever week, from the fairway, you still have to get into the ground, don't "pick" the ball, out of the rough, depending on the lie, you sometimes have to take your medicine for hitting it three, and just take less club, you cannot hit 5 iron from 190 out of the thick Bermuda rough, you have to take 8 or 9 iron come in steep and swing with firm hands and arms to keep the club on path, remember you are only trying to put the ball into a good position from the rough, good contact is important. Go to the Landings down the road, their greens are 10 times better. I have given this place a few chances but I won't be back. I don't think there is much they can do to make them more receptive honestly beside tearing them up and redoing them. It's borderline unplayable they are so hard and the top dressing of sand on most of them didn't help. That assumption has been proven wrong every time. The real problem with the course is the ROCK HARD greens! Before when I left I thought well maybe they just need some work and they will be better next time. A lot of converging points, overhanging power lines and just not very well thought out. I have played the course a few times and it has probably been a year since I had been there. Now I don't expect much but this guy was flat out rude. First of all the older gentleman in the Pro Shop was about as unfriendly as he could be. I normally don't give subpar reviews but I feel like International City deserves this one. Overall, a very good golf course for the money and the upkeep and playability is comparable to any other course in the area. Membership for this year has gone up to $350 annually. Bathrooms and locker rooms are clean and there is a nice eating/sitting area with a TV and good A/C or heat depending on the season. Pace of Play is usually good and golfers will wave you through if they are playing slow.Ĭlub house has snacks, no hamburgers, hot dogs or sandwiches. Rough is ankle height thin grass in most places and/or trees will pose a problem when not on the fairway. The holes require smart decisions and most give great risk/reward opportunities. ![]() Adding more sand and raking it consistently should take care this issue.Įach hole has challenges and are not just straight up and down. Some bunkers are inconsistent with the sand always seemingly compacted. ![]() Greens, Fairways and Practice Areas are well kept.
